We were at the marina for a drink and I tried my hand at photobombing. I did well don't you think?
That night we went for dinner at the marina. On Saturday morning we headed over to Rainbow Beach. On the was we dropped in to Seary's Creek. It is just off the main road. The photos don't do it justice but the water is so clear, albeit a bit tea coloured, and it is a sandy bottom. It would be ideal for a dip in hot weather.
We drove into Rainbow Beach and went straight to Carlo Sandblow. It is basically a massive sand dune. From it you will see a photo that looks down the beach to Double Island Point and you see the coloured sands on the sandy escarpment.
There was a steep slide area and someone had left pieces of cardboard so Derek tried to use it to slide down the hill. This was the start of a bit of fun. Videos were the best thing for this.
From there we went up to Inskip Point and saw where the ferry takes vehicles and people from to go to Fraser Island.
The water in the bay is lovely so Derek and I had a quick dip there. Then back to Rainbow Beach and lunch at the Surf Club.
Sunday morning we went down to a café on the water at Tin Can Bay where they host a Monkey Mia type expeience. Here a family of dolphins that live in the bay turn up in the morning and are fed. As it is a smaller deal than Monkey Mia everyone gets to feed a dolphin if they want to. Linda had her go.
Got a couple of videos as well.
That day we had a long walk around the foreshore at Tin Can Bay and got a kilo of prawns and enjoyed them with a couple of beers looking over the bay. Another tough day at the office.
Monday came all to soon and it was time to leave Tin Can Bay but it was to be the best day of our long weekend. The night before I had gone online and obtained a permit to drive on the beach. The tides did not suit to enable us to drive from Rainbow Beach down to Double Island Point via the beach after 8am so we turned off the main road near Rainbow Beach and took the Freshwater track down to the Freshwater Campground. It is a great camp ground in a spot that is well positioned to visit Double Island Point. I am keen to camp there one day but it will be without the van.
From the Freshwater Campground and Day Use area we headed north along Noosa North Shore to Double Island Point. My nervous wife took a video of the drive on the beach.
We came off the beach up the Leisha Track and out to Double Island Point. This spot is the jewel in the crown of this whole area we have been over our long weekend. Have a look at these videos first to appreciate what it is like and then some photos.
Double Island Point and view to Rainbow Beach and Carlo Sandblow.
Further look at beach around Double Island Point.
When we got to the end of the track Linda and I were blown away by the beauty of the place.
Here is a pano.
The water here is as clear as Ningaloo. You can see fish all around when you are in the water. It just doesn't have the turquoise colour you get there.
We took a walk up the beach to check out the coloured sands.
Time then to head off so we headed back down Noosa North Shore back to Kay & Derek's place.
Well that has to be the most number of photos and videos that I have put on a post for a three day period yet. But that is an indication of how nice it has been there. We head off on Wednesday morning to the Glasshouse Mountains.
