Seventeen Seventy and Agnes Water

Wednesday, 29th June we went to the town of Seventeen Seventy. We had booked in to the 1770 Campground for two nights. We were lucky, so I thought, to get the two nights because it is a much sought after campground as it is west facing over the lagoon and it is beautiful on the beach here. However, our particular site was in total shade on a dirty sandy ground with no view of the beach from the site. So it felt very drab, but it was only a 100 metre walk to the beach. The other poor aspect was that it was school holidays and so it was packed with noisy kids and feral fisherman and their families. I think we might have been better off to be in the van park further up the road where we would have had grass and sunshine. The downside of that is that we would just have to drive up the peninsular to the campground beach to watch the sunset which would not be a problem really.

I would come to that campground again as long as I got a beachfront site and out of school holidays. So these are the photos of the beach which we have to walk a hundred metres or so to get to. I guess I am going to sound like a whinger when you see them. The first couple of photos looks to the water from our nearest spot on the beach and our camp site is at the back of the sites in the photo of the camp sites that you can see in the shot after that. Oh well, take the good with the bad.

After setting up and checking out the beach view we drove up to the end of the peninsular to the headland and walked to the lookout.

Then returned back to our camp for a walk along the beach.

Then sat out to watch the sunset over the water.

Next morning the tide had gone out so took some photos to indicate just how far it goes out.

Time to have a drive around to check out Agnes Waters. From the Info Centre we took a walk out to a lookout where you have Agnes Water Beach to the north and Workmans Beach to the south.

Agnes Water Beach.

Workman's Beach.
Agnes Water Beach at ground level.

Saw the Captain Cook memorial for the occasion that gave 1770 it's name. This was on a wal through some forest area which was very nice.

Back to camp to enjoy another sunset on the beach.

The next morning, Friday, was a beautiful morning but it was time to go. We were glad to leave our dark and drab campsite but sorry to be leaving such a beautiful beach and waterway. After pulling out of the site we stopped up the road to take in the views of the water on a still morning and get some photos.

Next stop is Bundaberg.
