Our Plan for SE QLD

Hi all and welcome to our travels for 2016. Thanks to all those of you who take an interest in the blog.

It is so good to be on the road again. We have been back at work since the day we got home on the 18th February and have been working pretty hard. Recently Linda has been working harder than me which I think is great (One of my goals in life achieved – tick).

At the time of writing this we, technically, are not on the road yet. I leave tomorrow but my excitement on the eve of travelling is exquisite. When you get totally prepped and get the ball of the vehicle under the hitch ready for a start the next morning, trust me, you feel it.

The plan is to head up the New England Highway, veering off toward Narrabri and head straight for Carnarvon Gorge. There I will be meeting my sister Kay and bro-n-law Derek. We will be checking out the gorge and relaxing for five or six days, then heading to the Bowen River Rodeo and Campdraft on the 10th to 12th June. Every year about 6000 people descend on this pub and campground in the middle of nowhere, south of Townsville and have a ball. Our neighbours, who are also caravaners, help out the hosts and asked us along. They say they socialize with the drovers and get around the campfire at night, and the guitars come out and it is a great time. I am so looking forward to this event, getting out amongst some great country folk. We meet up there with sister-n-law and bro-n-law on Linda’s side, Jan & Ross, who have joined us on some sections of our travels already.

After the rodeo we head to Airlie Beach. Linda does not actually join me until we get there. For a few reasons Linda is staying behind, one of which is that she does not care if she sees another gorge in her life. After seeing and walking so many gorges in the Northern Territory and WA she is gorged out.

From there we gradually work our way down the beautiful QLD coast to Noosa where we will spend a couple of weeks with Kay & Derek and also visit other family. We also want to check out the Glass House Mountains hinterland.

We then make our way home expecting that we will get home around mid August. Sounds good to me when I think about it and we get to escape the south for the winter. Looking forward to sharing our travels with you.
